New developments in CREDIT (Cremer's Editor) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mar 28,24: When copying a column selction for Excel the decimal sepa- rator of numbers will be adapted automatically in such a way that the numbers will be pasted correctly into Excel. Additionally to using the context menu, the task may be called as well via the "Edit" menu and by the key combi- nation Ctrl+Shift+E. ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 07,23: Release of the new version 5.8 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 18,23: The task "Help / Feedback to CP..." now informs the user if files (especially a currently open CAPLAN project *.CP) are locked and cannot be added to the message. Either the message will be created without the locked files or the user can close the CAPLAN project and then add the files again. Jun 27,23: If a task within a macro is to be executed for selected lines only but no lines have been selected, a message box that required user interaction was shown. This message box will now no longer be shown while a macro is running. ----------------------------------------------------------- May 02,23: Release of the new version 5.7 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 03,23: Since May 2022, the dialogs for syntax colors and back- ground colors showed an error when clicking any color button. Thus it was not possible to select a color. This error has been rectified. Mar 24,23: If CREDIT copies a column selection to the clipboard, this data contains a header to inform CREDIT about the column selection when pasting the data. When pasting the data into Excel the header was added as first cell. To avoid this inconvenient header the new task "Copy for Excel" has been added to the context menu of a column selection. Mar 20,23: The text search allows extension of the current selection. The width of a column selection will now be extended up to the search text. Feb 16,23: The setup now allows the online help for the installation to be opened by pressing F1. Jan 23,23: The task "Compare 2 Lines..." applies the current column selection as a default for both comparison expressions. Dec 09,22: When searching and replacing text by a table, the table is checked for errors upon loading. These errors will now be written in more detail, so that they can easily be amended in the table file. ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 03,22: Release of the new version 5.6 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- May 04,22: If, in a macro, the command "Search/Replace by Table" does not find any search text in the current file, the macro will now continue running until completion. Hitherto, the macro stopped after execution of this step. ----------------------------------------------------------- May 02,22: Release of the new version 5.5 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Feb 02,22: If, from a macro, a command could not be executed correctly, macro execution was canceled after this command. Now you will be informed of which command caused the macro to stop. Nov 10,21: The task "Replace by Table..." processed the table in the wrong way if search texts occured multiple times in the table. This error has been rectified. ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 21,21: Release of the new version 5.4 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 15,21: When running CREDIT from within the Cremer Commander, all the currently selected files will be opened at the same time. ----------------------------------------------------------- May 03,20: Release of the new version 5.3 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 26,21: Since March 2021, calling the file search from the file dialog regularly caused CREDIT to crash. This error has been rectified. Feb 15,20: The file dialog now refreshes the file list after a new folder or a new file have been created via the context menu. Dec 08,20: When applying the clipboard (copy/paste) in macros, various errors occured. For example, the clipboard held a wrong text, or no text could be fetched from the clipboard. These errors have now been rectified. Nov 16,20: The column calculation can access data from adjacent lines. If a previous line is accessed, the most recently computed result from this previous line is now applied. ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 06,20: Release of the new version 5.2 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Aug 19,20: The tasks 'Search and Replace' and 'Replace by Table...' offer the following placeholders for use in the replace text: <#DATE> Current date <#TIME> Current time <#PATH> Path (without file name) <#FULLPATH> Path and filename with extension <#NAME> Filename without extension (without '.') <#EXT> File extension (without '.') <#FULLNAME> Filename and extension These placeholders are also taken into account by macros. ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 30,20: Release of the new version 5.1 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 04,19: Release of the new version 5.0 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 30,19: Release of the new version 4.9 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 16,19: In addition to the favorites list, the file dialog offers a combo box with the directories in which the most recently used files were opened or saved. Both lists now only show local directories that actually exist. Directories from network drives will not be checked in advance. Feb 06,19: The command 'Lines / Goto Marked Line...' was recorded by the macro recorder but was never saved to the macro file *.CER. This error has been rectified. Dec 20,18: If, with the task 'Search/Replace', the search string con- tained the wildcard character '*' the single replacements were executed correctly but the button 'Replace all' produced a wrong result. This error has been rectified. ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 31,18: Release of the new version 4.8 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Aug 27,18: Searching for a text inside a marked column failed if the target text contained lower case characters and if the option "Search case-sensitive" was not set. This error has now been rectified. Jun 18,18: The new tasks "Extras / File name without path" and "Extras / File name with path" allow the inserting of the file name into an open file. These tasks are available for macros as well. ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 30,18: Release of the new version 4.7 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Mar 12,18: The resturcturing of lines presets the option for only processing the marked area or the marked lines if an area or lines have been marked in advance. Feb 28,18: Since the update issued at the end of January 2018, cre- ating a new line transformation unfortunately caused a program crash. This error has been rectified. Jan 10,18: The file dialog now also offers the entry "View..." in the context menu to adapt the display of the file list (symbols/list without grid/list with grid). ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 30,17: Release of the new version 4.6 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Aug 21,17: When opening a file on the desktop with a file filter ap- plied, only the files that match the filter will now be displayed. Aug 01,17: If, for printing a file, the printing text font was set to 'Same as view font', some extra space was added after each character. The output was thus much broader than desired. This error has been rectified. Jul 10,17: With the "Open files exclusively" option set (via "Set- tings / General" and in the "Files" tab), the file content was displayed in one single line and the line feeds were ignored. The display could, however, be corrected after- wards using "View / UNIX End of Line". The file content will now immediately be displayed with all the correct line feeds. ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 27,16: Release of the new version 4.5 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 10,17: The dialog for extending a user license now offers a direct hyperlink to our website after selecting the new 'CP' mod- ule. Mar 27,17: The shortcut Alt+Ctrl+Arrow left or right moves the caret to the end of the previous or next word. With the Shift key pressed as well, the current selection will be extended until the end of the previous or next word. All these shortcuts are also available in CREDIT macros. The Home key moves the caret to the beginning of the cur- rent line. Now the caret will be placed at the beginning of the first word, if it was behind this place before. By pressing Home again the caret toggles between the beginning of the line and the beginning of the first word. This be- havior is reproduced in CREDIT macros as well. Mar 09,17: Within some dialogs, pressing the F1 key did not show the correct help page. This error has been rectified. Feb 17,17: When copying column data from CREDIT to EXCEL via the clip- board (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V), the first line contained a leading string e.g. "!#!COL!#! 16x 5" which had to be deleted manually. This header will now be created in an additional header line which can easily be deleted. Feb 03,17: Since the update issued in November 2016, files were dis- played without line feed if they were opened in exclusive access mode. This error has been rectified. Dec 22,16: Unfortunately, our recent setup program wrote the Windows Explorer commands "Open with CREDIT" "Open in CC" to the Windows registry incorrectly. By executing the REG files CREDITtoContextMenu.reg CCtoContextMenu.reg from the BIN folder the registry entries will be corrected retroactively. Dec 08,16: The current version no longer supports Windows XP In the print dialog, the "Print with colors" option has been moved from the "Extras" tab to the "General" tab and is therefore immediately visible. ----------------------------------------------------------- Dec 07,16: Last version to support Windows XP ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 16,16: Printing several copies of a document was not possible for a short period. This error has been corrected. Nov 08,16: The 32 bit version crashed when executing the task "Search and Replace" and clicking the button "Replace all". This error has been rectified. ----------------------------------------------------------- Nov 02,16: Release of the new version 4.4 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Sep 12,26: CREDIT can now handle UNICODE files. Aug 12,16: In the recent update released on August 11th printing from CREDIT applied a much smaller text font than usual. This error has been rectified. Aug 04,16: With high resolution displays now offering more than 2000 x 1000 pixels, CREDIT now adapts its display so that the user interface is optimized for the resolution and clearly legible. Jun 03,16: When using only one '*' as a placeholder for the file name in the print header, the whole file name (including the path) will always be printed, with line wrapping if neces- sary. ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 29,16: Release of the new version 4.3 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 30,15: Release of the new version 4.2 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Apr 30,15: Release of the new version 4.1 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Mar 17,15: The toolbar containing the buttons for loading and saving files now also offers a new "Save as..." button. Mar 16,15: The column marking mode is now valid for all open files in a CREDIT session. And the column marking mode is persistent for any subsequent calling of CREDIT. When merging two files together, the last line of each file will be checked for an EOL character which will be added automatically. Otherwise the last lines would be excluded from the file merge. ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 20,14: Release of the new version 4.0 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Aug 20,14: Deleting all marked lines previously took a considerable amount of time when applied to files containing more than 100 000 lines. This operation has been optimized and now takes only a few seconds even when applied to very big files. Aug 11,14: The most recently applied macro will immediately be loaded on CREDIT startup and can be executed directly in the cur- rent file. Apr 10,14: The behavior of functions concerning the last line in a file differed depending on whether the last line contained a real line break or not. Now the task "Mark lines" will be executed correctly in both cases. In both cases, a column block marker can now be defined by dragging with the mouse pointer from the last line. Apr 01,14: The task "Replace by Table" in some cases worked incor- rectly if '?' was used as wildcard in the search texts and if the search texts were similar e.g. "AA??", "AA???", "AA????". In some cases the text replacement was incorrect or the end of line was removed. This behaviour has been corrected. Sep 04,13: When holding the SHIFT key while clicking with the left mouse button, the text range from the current cursor posi- tion to the clicked character will be marked as a text se- lection. This operation also takes the column mode into ac- count. Apr 19,13: The column range [From-] now corresponds to [From-0] and collect all the data to the end of the particular line. Sep 05,12: The task "Extras / Leading zeros..." retained the last set- ting for considering marked lines although in the current case no lines may be marked. This error was amended. Jun 05,12: The command line option '/p' enables you to print a file directly from the command line. May 02,12: The settings made in the printer setup are taken into ac- count within the print dialogs. Dec 16,11: Until now, the "Replace by Table" dialog always used the quote character " as a text delimiter for table values. This character could therefore not be used in search or re- place texts. The characters ' ; : , are now allowed as alter- native text delimiters and so there is more flexibility reg- arding the characters that can be used in search and replace texts. ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 31,11: Release of the new version 3.7 for download ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 20,11: The "Goto Line / Column" dialog now also accepts relative line and column positions; these refer to the caret's cur- rent position. Oct 13,11: The CREDIT title bar now shows information about the ex- clusivity of the current access to a file. Jun 09,11: The options in the print dialog were originally designed to print out all marked lines, regardless of whether a text area was also selected or not. Now, all the marked lines can be printed (which is the same option as previously available) or the print out can be restricted to the sel- ected text area (which is a new option). Mar 17,11: The behavior of the standard print dialog has been adapted to mirror other Windows applications. In a new CREDIT sess- ion, the first call to the print dialog always sets the standard Windows printer. All further changes to the print- er device are then preserved in the dialog until the CREDIT session is terminated. Mar 11,11: In a few special cases, the macro step descriptions gave rise to errors in the macro execution. This has now been rectified. Jan 20,11: The marking of lines is no longer restricted to the found line or the previous or next line. Now any line preceding or following the found line can be marked. Additional lines can be marked as well. Jan 10,11: In the Setup process, a new option is offered on the last dialog page: add "Open with CREDIT" to the Windows Explorer context menu. This helps ensure that CREDIT is always at your fingertips for every file. Dec 07,10: A sub macro's file name can be saved without the need to specify a particular path - if the sub macro is located in the same directory as that in which the main macro resides (the path is also omitted if the sub macro is located in the DAT or USR directory). Copying a macro, including its sub macros, to another computer can now be done effortless- ly without the need to create identical directories on the destination computer in which to place the sub macros. The same principle applies to the location of the table file used for the Search and Replace by Table function. Nov 16,10: While selecting a column, the current line is now kept in synchronization with the current location of the caret. This is helpful in determining the bottom of a selected col- umn, particularly when working with broad columns. The "Lines / Sort" function now also offers the possibility of sorting by the number of non-blank characters found in the selected column area. ----------------------------------------------------------- Oct 26,10: Release and distribution of the new version 3.6 ----------------------------------------------------------- Sep 10,10: The "Feedback to CP..." could not be sent as an e-mail if you had a recent version of Microsoft Outlook installed. This error was rectified today. Aug 13,10: In anticipation of the Intergeo trade fair, all the program icons have been redesigned to provide an improved and con- sistent look. In parallel, the toolbar icons in the graphi- cal user interface (GUI) have been updated. The applicat- ions thus have a modern and appealing look. Jul 22,10: An error in the line sorting function that had existed since June 30 has been rectified today. Jul 19,10: The "Search and Replace By Table" function can now also use search strings containing jokers (?), if the relevant opt- ion is activated. However, a wildcard (*) cannot be used in conjunction with multiple search strings. In various CREDIT dialogs, there are text entry fields that can store multiple text entries in a list (such as Search and Replace text strings). Previously, obsolete text strings could not be removed from the list. However, our new text list now displays a Delete icon next to the activated text element. A text element can be removed by clicking on this icon and then confirming the subsequent question. Jul 12,10: In the macro editing dialog, each macro step can now be furnished with a comment. This may be helpful for under- standing or remembering the meaning of an individual macro step, particularly if some time has passed since the macro was created. Jul 08,10: A specific line marking mode is now available in CREDIT and can be activated using the menu command "Lines / Mark Modified Lines". If activated, all lines in which changes have been made are marked. The new mode may be helpful, for example, for displaying numerous, automatically processed, changes (such as Search and Replace All), which can then easily be traced and checked. Jun 30,10: Text line sorting can now be restricted to previously marked lines (which appear in green by default). Jun 21,10: The new function "Column / Convert..." provides some ready- to-use conversions, such as "Degrees to Gons" and "Celsius to Fahrenheit". Additionally, it is possible to convert time values to strings containing a date and clock time. The associated reverse conversions are also available. Jun 16,10: In a mathematical expression, time values can now also be converted to dates and clock hours. For example, the time value 40318.63172 describes a point in time 40318 days after January 1, 1900, which is equivalent to the date May 20, 2010. The decimal fractal 0.63172 means the clock time 15:09:41. As only numbers can be used in a mathemat- ical expression, the result of a YMD() conversion is stated as a number, which is 20100520.150941 in our example. May 07,10: Since March, an error in the printing function has been cau- sing a problem involving only the first print task being correctly executed, whereas all the following print calls did not take any changes made since the first print task into account (such as selections). This error has now been rectified. Apr 13,10: The symbol [ML] can be used in all mathematical expressions to denote the number of currently marked lines. Mar 15,10: In the Clipboard view window (via the menu command Window / Clipboard...) the Clipboard contents can now be removed. This event is also saved as a macro step if macro recording is currently active. Feb 23,10: The recording of a long macro has been speeded up signific- antly. The audible signal that can be heard whenever a new macro event is saved can now be switched off or on using a button in the "Macro Recording" window. The name of the currently loaded macro is displayed in the macro bar. In the list containing all macro elements, the sub-macros now appear with their names and can therefore easily be identi- fied. Feb 17,10: The extended ASCII characters (from code 128 through 255) are now displayed in the dialog in the same way as they appear later in the text. The font type used in the CREDIT text window is therefore also used in the dialog list from where the extended ASCII characters are selected. Nov 19,09: Horizontal color strips can now also be defined temporarily in order to highlight, for example, blocks of lines. Nov 09,09: The display of colored temporary columns has been decoupled from the display of colored permanent columns in the back- ground. The menu command "View / Background Coloration" switches only the permanent color columns on or off. The temporary color columns can be removed via the context menu command "Remove All". Oct 08,09: In our printing dialog, the "Automatic Duplex" mode is no longer directly available but must be set in the sub-dialog controling the individual printer. This can now be done on the first dialog page. This change was necessary because many HP printer drivers cannot be switched to Duplex mode from an external source (e.g. by CREDIT). To avoid confusion, the external printer management is therefore no longer supp- orted at all, even though some printers are able to assume Duplex mode by means of an external command. Sep 18,09: The new file and directory functions introduced at the end of August were mainly designed to cater for the VISTA oper- ating system. However, the new functions were not compatible with the older Windows 2000 operating system. This has been rectified today. Sep 10,09: The line related values [LS] and [LM] have not been reco- gnized correctly in mathematical and logical expressions. This error has been rectified today. Aug 27,09: The capacity of the undo memory is no longer limited. How- ever, if an operation consists of many single steps the user is reminded that storing the operation will take a little extra amount of computational time. Aug 05,09: Since the last update, the background colors of column ranges were in some cases displayed incorrectly. This error has been rectified. Aug 03,09: In the "Restructuring Lines" dialog, all text fields provid- ing previews of the restructured sample lines have now been amended to reflect the new layout. Particularly the column ruler labels are now as clear as in the main window of CREDIT. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 27,09: Release and distribution of the new version 3.5 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 03,09: Error reports and suggestions for improvements can be sub- mitted via "Help / Feedback to CP...". In this dialog the text input area has now been renewed. A line break can now be made using just the Enter key (not Ctrl+Enter any more), and ASCII characters can be entered by typing the code num- ber while holding down the Alt key. A macro repeatedly executed until the end or top of a file is reached is now displayed with a progress bar, which dis- plays progress through the entire process. Jun 22,09: Besides the standard print output up to eight further print- ing configurations can be specified. If, for example, the print orientation used in CREDIT is predominantly Landscape then a printing configuration named "Landscape" could be created and used. The only drawback is that this printing configuration is not invoked via the well-known printer icon. On the other hand one could change the standard print output, but this would result in the standard printer settings being changed, which can have negative consequences with regard to other applications (such as Word). To solve the problem a new page has been added to the settings dialog so that a specific printing configuration is carried out when the printer icon or the shortcut Ctrl+P is pressed. Jun 15,09: In the Find File process archive files (such as a ZIP or a DOCX file) were not unzipped up to now, which was not very sensible when a text had to be searched for. Now an addi- tional option "Unpack archives" is available. The list of files that have been found still contains the archive files unaltered but there is a tiptext now showing the original file contained in the archive with its relative sub direc- tory (e.g. "In archive: Subdir\file.TXT size date"). If a file has been collected from multiple file sources it may occur that the rows are terminated by different end-of- line characters. This problem was hitherto not reflected in the visual display, even if the end of line had been repre- sented by a visible sign (such as a pound sign). Now the regular sign is only displayed if the end of the line is correctly contained in the text (i.e. a CR+LF double char- acter in Windows and a single LF character in UNIX files). Otherwise, if the EOL data differs from that standard then a rectangular box appears as used with any other binary character. Jun 08,09: When carrying out column calculations or line restructuring tasks, a mathematical expression with numbers in the form [from-to] can be used. A logical expression (used to mark specific lines) can also contain such statements. Now, the upper limit (to) can be set to 0 in order to signify that the range extends from the lower limit (from) until the end of the line. Jun 02,09: Line numbers can now be displayed as an option in an addit- ional area to the left of the text lines. The settings can be made via "Settings / General" and "Settings / Colors". The current (active) line is indicated by a small triangle in the left-hand margin. A further option is now available allowing the current line to be highlighted with a specific background color. The column ruler is still labeled at intervals of 10 steps. However, instead of a single digit, the full column number now appears on top of the ruler. This will help avoid any ambiguities. May 26,09: If the current cursor position is an opening bracket then the matching closing bracket can now easily be found by typ- ing the shortcut Ctrl+B. In order to select the text bet- ween these two brackets the Alt key must also be pressed. Complex Line Restructuring methods contain multiple compon- ents and these can now each be individually switched on or off using check marks. As only the selected components are used to produce the preview a complex method can now be analyzed more easily. May 19,09: Alongside the standard Clipboard functions "Cut" and "Copy", two new functions - "Cut+Append" and "Copy+Append" have now been added to CREDIT. In contrast to the standard functions the new functions append the text to the existing Clipboard contents. The Plus sign in "+Append" relates to the extens- ion of the Clipboard contents. The new menu command "Window / Clipboard..." displays the current contents of the clipboard. May 16,09: In order to enter a specific ASCII character with a code between 0 and 255, it is no longer necessary to employ one of the special dialogs, as long as the code number is known. The character can now also be entered directly by simply typing the code number while pressing down the Alt key. May 04,09: The three dialogs "Search", "Search and Replace", and "Re- place By Table" now only make their selection-related options available if corresponding selections were made be- fore the dialog was opened, or if corresponding selections are made while the dialog is open. Jan 26,09: Already while loading a macro all the external data referen- ces neccessary to execute the macro (such as Restructuring Lines or Replace by Table) are now checked. If the require- ments are not fulfilled then the macro will not be loaded. Nov 21,08: Macros using submacros sometimes did not run to the end of the designated text range but were exited prematurely. This has been corrected. Nov 21,08: In the "Restructuring Lines" dialog, the transforming compo- nents can now be given individual names which can better de- scribe the functionality and thus help to facilitate the identification of the component. Sep 16,08: The "Line Marking" function in the latest CREDIT version took a long time and was thus unworkable, especially in large files. The function has been 'speeded up' today and is now as fast as it was previously. Aug 14,08: Two errors that ocurred in the latest CREDIT version have been rectified: (i) in the "Restructuring Lines" dialog the program crashed when a "New Transformation" was created, and (ii) a macro generated by an older CREDIT version and cont- aining the "Restructuring Lines" function could not identify the transformation (name) anymore. Aug 06,08: The location of data sets, such as syntax colors, background color and line transformations, can now be managed very int- uitively via the context menu (access with right mouse button). The "Edit Data Location" dialog has therefore been removed. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 28,08: Release and distribution of the new version 3.4 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 21,08: The "Mark Lines" function is now based on a logical expres- sion that also permits access to rows other than the current one. Although the "Compare Two Lines" function can be com- pletely replaced by the enhanced new functionality it will still be supported as it is more straightforward for most users. Jul 14,08: In file directories it is possible to quickly find and sel- lect a sub-directory or file in a long list by typing the first characters of the name. This general mechanism has been supplemented by new functionality: if the characters entered start with a dot then file name extensions are searched for. Jul 07,08: The "Restructuring Lines" dialog has been completely over- hauled and now has a clear and easily understandable layout. Some internal elements have also changed that are not obvious at first sight: - The name of a transformation is no longer restricted to a maximum of 24 characters - All transformation components can now have access to any lines rather than just the current one. These amendments required a new format which is now used for saving a transformation in the EdiUmf.DAT file. The older format is automatically converted to the new format. In this conversion process the two components with the type "Linear transformation" and "Line number transformation" are automa- tically converted to a "Mathematical expression" with its more generalized scope. Jun 23,08: In the File Open dialog it was hitherto possible to add indi- vidual directories to the favorite list, thus allowing fast access to these directories. This group of favorite direc- tories is now supplemented by a new set which appears at the very top of the list: these are the working directory and any directories created during the Setup process (such as the DAT directory). These new favorites can be selected in CC via the "Settings / Paths..." menu command. Jun 19,08: As well as the, already existing, "Arrange Delimiter-Separ- ated Elements in Columns" task, the reverse task is now also available, where columns can be packed in order to transform a column oriented format to a compressed format, such as an EXCEL CSV file. May 26,08: The printing, configurations 1 through 8 can each be labeled with an individual name, which is displayed in the menu and thus provides better identification in order to help select the desired configuration. May 13,08: When carrying out column calculations or line restructuring tasks, a mathematical expression with numbers in the form [from-to] can be used. Up to now these numbers were con- fined to the current line. With the new, more generalized, syntax [dL.from-to] numbers in previous lines (dL negative) or following lines (dL positive) can also be accessed. Both statements, [41-44] and [0.41-44], are thus equivalent. A preceding "A" character (A as in absolute) can also be used to access an absolute line, as in the example [a10.41-44], where a number in line 10 is addressed. May 02,08: Under certain circumstances, a search text can wrap around two or more lines. For example, in a UNIX file the search text "A<#10>Z" detects all occurencies where the letter "Z" terminates a line and "A" introduces the following line. A prerequisite is, however, that the Joker option is not activated and that the search range is neither confined to a selected column nor to marked lines. Apr 28,08: Most of CREDIT's setting parameters are now globally mana- ged. This implies a change in font or color to be updated in all of the currently open files. The most recent values are saved persistently upon termination of CREDIT and are globally provided when CREDIT is launched again. Apr 07,08: Within the context of processing a macro the recognition of the end of a file was improved. In some cases a macro had not recognized the end of a file up to now and thus failed to terminate itself. Mar 27,08: Some CREDIT users felt more irritated rather than positively supported by an ever-present background coloration. Now the background visibility is simultaneously switched on / off for all loaded files. Furthermore, the visibility setting is saved persistently. In order to support input of column-oriented tables it is now possible to display individual colored columns in the background. The new functions are available via the context menu by clicking with the right-hand mouse button on the ruler at the top of the text area. As some of our customers were a little sad that the binary characters had disappeared from view we have now reintro- duced them in a modified form so that MS VISTA can handle them. Jan 21,08: In some networks saving a file could take quite some time. The file saving process has now been speeded up considerably. Jan 10,08: The binary characters display was removed. The status line still displays the ASCII code of each character. Oct 04,07: The print dialog has been restructured. Aug 24,07: The internal identification numbers of menu commands and dialogs were changed. Therefore, if you download a recent CREDIT version from the Internet then you should also down- load the CREDIT help file in order to maintain a consistent program / help version. ----------------------------------------------------------- Aug 13,07: Release and distribution of the new version 3.3 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 31,07: The Print Dialog was enhanced with the new option "Print with colors" on the "Range" page. If this option is activ- ated then all colors are printed as they are displayed on the screen, including the syntax colors and the new back- ground coloration. Jul 27,07: The background can be covered with horizontal and / or ver- tical colored stripes. The color schemes are associated to certain file types so that whenever a file of a certain type is opened the stripes are automatically displayed in the background. Jun 25,07: A macro batch process can now be configured and launched directly in a new CREDIT dialog. Jun 19,07: The syntax coloring scheme is now capable of assigning col- ors to each individual keyword. Additionally, an unlimited number of line highlightings can now be defined. Jun 11,07: A new macro command for deleting the Clipboard contents is now available. Jun 06,07: The "Manipulate Lines" dialog was now equipped with the new task "Word sensitive line break". This task inserts line breaks in a word sensitive way so that words remain as whole entities. The application window is now compatible with multiple monitors. Jun 05,07: In the General Settings Dialog the new option "Keep open files write-protected" is now available. The activation of this option results in multiple simultaneous access (and editing) of files being avoided. May 25,07: During macro execution the progress is displayed with a dialog that contains a Cancel button to stop execution. Mar 16,07: In the file name bar an asterisk now appears after the file name whenever the text / data has been modified. Feb 16,07: All file dialogs provide a new bar where your favourite dir- ectories can be managed - thus allowing fast access to im- portant directories. Jan 26,07: The Find File dialog was throughly overhauled. The dialog size can now be changed. Dec 22,06: The CREDIT exercise book (CREDIT.DOC) is now available on the Cremer website as a PDF file. Dec 13,06: Macro functions which jump to a specific text position (e.g. a marked line) cause the currently executed macro to be can- celled if this specific text position cannot be found, i.e., all further macro steps are skipped in this case. Dec 08,06: The Standard Printer Configuration contains the settings of the Windows standard printer. Any changes to the standard configuration are now only used during the current CREDIT session and are discarded upon termination of the session. Sep 07,06: The new version flag in the macro files was in some cases faulty, resulting in the occassional unintentional convert- ing of macros. This behaviour has now been corrected. Sep 05,06: In the Restructure Lines dialog a slight display flaw occur- red when selecting a component. This has now been eliminated. Sometimes the automatically reloaded backup files overwrote the original files without user confirmation. The user is now asked to make that decision for each individual file. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 31,06: Release and distribution of the new version 3.2 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 24,06: Whilst recording a macro the Undo command removes the last recorded command and, if necessary, the most recent text changes. This enables erraneous macro recordings to easily be corrected without having to restart the whole process. Recorded macros can be executed step by step using the macro editor. The results of the single steps can thus be easily inspected and troubleshooting is simplified. File security issue: In addition to the already existing procedure of renaming the original file to a BAK-file there is now a second, more refined, method of backing up documents: at certain time intervals each open document, if edited since the last backup, is saved as a special (tempor- ary) file that can be reloaded automatically in the event of a CREDIT crash. In other words, an autosave function is now available. Jul 17,06: The Restructure Line method is now capable of handling free formatted lines and transforming them into a column-related structure. The new transformation type "Copy Field of Source Line" enables you to process the new attributes in the coordinate files in any way you like. EdiUmf.DAT was amended with regard to the new coordinate formats. Jul 12,06: With the new dialog "Merge Files..." it is possible to merge data from two source files line by line. The identification of lines in each file to be merged is done using a primary key that is present in both files and provides a unique ident- ifier for data rows. Jul 11,06: From now on the print preview function processes additional form feeds (page breaks) correctly. A single line may contain more than one form feed. The page number displayed in the sta- tus bar corresponds to these form feeds. Jul 05,06: The current text selection can now easily be extended to the next marked line (F7/Shift+F7), the next bookmark (F2/Shift+F2) or to the next result of a text search. The macro recorder also includes this extended functionality. When calculating columns you can now access and use in log- ical expressions the line number of the current text select- ion. This is enabled by the with the new "[LS]" entry. Nov 10,05: The settings of the tab lines in "CREDIT Settings / Tab Keys" are now stored permanently for later reuse. Within one session CREDIT retains the last printer used when printing via the standard configuration more than once. In any new session, however, CREDIT resets to the current system printer. Oct 25,05: The menu function "Save As" can be called directly via the short key F12 (or Shift+F12). Sep 26,05: From now on all important settings for the macro recorder are taken directly from the current CREDIT view. Thus the dialog "Macro / Initial Options..." is superfluous and has been removed. Aug 04,05: Via "Extras / Current Date" and "Extras / Current Time" the current date and time can be inserted at the caret position. The date and time format is determined by "Settings / Time Format...". The new commands were also incorporated into the macro recorder. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 18,05: Release and distribution of the new version 3.1 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 14,05: The menu option "View / Binary Characters" was installed as a last-minute amendment: only if this option is activated will the binary characters (ASCII 0-31) be displayed as box- shaped items, otherwise the place remains empty. May 30,05: While comparing two files you can now use the mouse wheel for scrolling when the overview window has the focus. May 23,05: The "Initial Options" of the macro recorder were extended and now recognize the "Assistance for column input". May 18,05: The usage of the clipboard was improved so that text parts including ASCII Null can now be handled as well. In other applications <#0> appears instead of ASCII Null. May 10,05: The syntax color file SynColor.DAT can now be located in different folders (similar to the file EdiUmf.DAT used for the restructuring of lines). Apr 18,05: Occurences of a found text (with Search, Replace etc.) can now be displayed centered if desired (via the Common Sett- ings). This helps, for example, when browsing a DXF file for a specific occurrence and checking for other features a few lines below or above the current search text. Mar 03,05: Now you can easily input or manipulate columns if you acti- vate the setting "Assistance for column input" in "CREDIT Settings / Tab Key". If you move one line up or down the caret jumps to the column where you started your text input. The File View now uses all display settings you specified for CREDIT. However, the font name and font size are stored individually. Feb 16,05: Favored line transformations can now be stored globally (DAT-Folder), project dependently (PRO-Folder) or locally (MNU-Folder). In each of these folders the file EdiUmf.DAT is used for storing the line transformations. Within the dialog "Restructuring Lines" you can change the storage loc- ation of each transformation in an easy way. In "Compare Files" you are now able to ignore case sensivity. Feb 10,05: The text navigation was facilitated once more. Now you can use the arrow keys in combination with the Ctrl key to move the caret to the beginning of the next word. In selection mode (with the Shift key pressed down) you can also use these shortcut keys. Thus the caret's jump width is now obsolete and was removed from the dialog "CREDIT Settings / Widths". Jan 21,05: Our new printpage preview indicates the line breaks made in printing. The number of the printpage is shown in the status bar at the lower right edge. Oct 22,04: Based on several experiences at the Intergeo exhibition in Stuttgart the macro recorder's functionality was simplified. The recording process can now be initiated via either "Start" or "Continue". A column selection specified by the dialog (Ctrl+M) now accepts "0" as the rightmost column value. This means that the right hand margin includes the longest row covered. Also the "word selection" via double click was improved. In contrast to other editor programs the definition of a word was extended. Just try to double click the following: Paul Hargan, Tel. 8822-11, hp.guk@uni.org, Point coord. from 22.Oct.2004 at 60.00 Oct 01,04: Several customers complained about the settings contained in the Print Dialog where only the ones for the most recent printer could be reestablished. In companies with many pri- nters this may waste a lot of time. CREDIT now provides a remedy: Up to 8 configurations can be defined and directly accessed via the shortcut keys Ctrl+1..8. Aug 06,04: The current CREDIT version 3.0a includes the following cor- rections: Error in sorting dialog was fixed. CER files, formerly created with the keystroke recorder, can be used now as before. The macro executions "until end of file" and "until top of file" were enhanced. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 28,04: Release and distribution of the new version 3.0 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jul 02,04: The macro recorder has just been completed. It not only records keystrokes but also all actions which you normally carry out in editing dialogs. This gives a broad variety of macro capabilities meeting the demands of many of our engineers. From simple macros you can grow up to more complex macros because a (superordinated) macro may contain one or more (secondary) macros. In this way simple macros can be used in more than one complex macro. Additionally, any complex edit- ing process can certainly be reduced. The "All" functions were completely replaced by a new macro feature as a macro can now be applied to all files. Finally an editing macro can be integrated in any batch process. Jul 01,04: New function: Goto marked line with a specified number. Jun 30,04: When typing a character or pasting clipboard contents any selected text (block or column) will now be deleted before the new text is inserted. Jun 28,04: Two files can be compared line by line. In order to visu- alize the differences a specific line moving control was introduced. Thus both files can remain in two separated windows which is a prerequisite for editing the files even during the comparison process. Jun 21,04: The new version 3.0 of CREDIT has already moved forward to the Beta stage. The following new developments are the most important: - Revised menu structure. Almost all functions can now be in- voked from the first menu level. The toolbars were adapted correspondingly. - The key shortcuts were mostly adapted to the common Windows conventions. The print preview can be reached directly with Ctrl+Shift+P. - The method of fixed marking is now confined to the Search and Replace functionalities. The marked lines were reeval- uated and more tightly integrated. Thus, marked lines can be directly cut or copied to the clipboard. - Sorting of lines is now available without having selected a column. In such cases the entire file will be sorted either lexically or based on the ASCII order. - In the context of the Macro Recorder a further dialog to define a block or column selection was introduced. - The split window was dropped entirely and replaced by the ability to create a second window via the menu item "Window / New Window". Apr 14,04: A mathematical expression is allowed to contain the new element [LM]. This number contiguously counts the marked lines (as 1,2,3...) whereas all other (not marked) lines are assigned the value 0. In this way it is possible to provide marked lines with numbers etc. Apr 08,04: Today the keystroke recorder was enriched with a nice ex- tension: It is now possible to jump to the next or the previous marked line (by pressing F7). Sincere thanks to all of our customers for having suggested this useful feature. Apr 07,04: Again a useful suggestion of our customers was implemented: You can quickly jump to the next marked line by pressing the function key F7. To jump backwards you have to press F7 in combination with the shift-key. Up to now F7 was used to invoke the Search dialog. From now on the dialog-supported search is invoked by the shortcut Ctrl+F. Mar 31,04: Text containing tab characters can be formatted with the help of tab lines. Just set one or more tab lines manually and invoke the function "Edit / Formatting / Tab to Blank..." - never before could you align your text as con- veniently as now! Mar 22,04: CREDIT was enriched with the capability of syntax coloring. Keywords and text areas can now be highlighted by specific colors. As a consequence the text will appear more struct- ured and be more legible, thus reducing typing errors. Jan 30,04: The templates provided for "Restructuring Lines" were saved in the user-specific directory C:\Cremer\MNU in file EdiUmf. MNU up until now. Some customers using CREDIT in a network suggested to make this file sort of "public" in the net- work so that all CREDIT users might utilize these globally stored templates. Today the new file EdiUmf.DAT was shifted to the network dir- ectory C:\Cremer\DAT. A semi-automatic migration ensures that the existing templates will be copied together in the new file without loss of data. New templates will be stored globally in the new file without exception. Jan 24,04: The search functionality was thoroughly improved and simpli- fied. As well as the global exchange of search texts and re- lated options (e.g. case-sensitivity), updating is also eff- ectively performed now. Additionally, the search dialog will automatically suggest the currently selected text part as the a search text. Jul 04,03: The following All Functions are now completed: All / Extras / DOS to ANSII... All / Extras / UNIX Style EOL... All / Edit Lines / Sort... Jul 31,03: Search and Replace: Now you can also search for wildcards and jokers. The combination "Seek for Wildcard and Replace" is only available as a manually invoked single function. The automated functions "Replace All" and "Replace by Table" are not available manually. Jul 30,03: Search and Replace: The button "Replace all subsequent" was changed to "Replace all". Almost all list controls which you will find in our dialogs were made capable of copying their text contents to the Clipboard by invoking the corresponding function from the Context Menu (right mouse button). As the column entries are separated by a Tab character you are recommended to rearrange the columns with the CREDIT function "Edit / Form- atting / Delimiter to Columns...". Jul 25,03: Restructuring Lines: Source and target lines are now disp- layed in the same order. Jul 24,03: A permanently accessible Search Bar was created to support the search process without invoking the Find Dialog (with Ctrl+F): The text to be searched for (downwards) by F3 is always visible and you may even select text entries which were used previously. As is common with other Editors CREDIT also takes advantage of the close connection between the Find and Replace Dialog and they now exchange the Search text entries. In principle, all Search and Replace text pairs will be saved after they were successfully used, and the dialog remains open. Jul 09,03: Multiple documents in windows side by side can be scrolled simultaneously (vertically) if you activate the menu option "Window / Couple". Jul 05,03: Via shortcut Ctrl+G you can immediately jump to a certain line. You will find the new function as menu item "Edit / Go To Line..." as well. As our special shortcut Ctrl+N was rarely used to insert a new line the shortcut will now support the standard purpose i.e. creating a "New Document". If you would like to insert a new line you have to press the Shift Key with Ctrl+N. Jul 04,03: The Sorting Lines function was extended: As well as an as- cending sequence a descending sequence can also be genera- ted. Sort Lines by time was added. Apr 30,03: In the status bar the selection field on the right hand side now displays the number of marked lines, if any. Dec 02,02: When executing "Save As..." the famous message "File was modified. Would you like to reload?" could show up. Reload- ing the file was then punished with more obscure messages. This error was now properly fixed. Nov 09,02: After the Find Dialog was closed the caret returned to the starting position of the selected area (if you searched within the selected area). The found place will now be properly be restored. Oct 27,02: In some rare network environments CREDIT was started with the abbreviated file name known from the old days of DOS. CREDIT now works around that problem. Oct 26,02: Activating the new option "View / Show Full Path" results in CREDIT showing the entire path of the currently edited file in the title bar. This may be convenient if you have to edit multiple files identical names but stored in diff- erent directories. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jun 05,02: Release and distribution of the new version 2.7 ----------------------------------------------------------- May 28,02: The following All-Functions were completed: All / Select / Block or Column... All / Select / Lines... All / Select / Remove All / Select / Remove Line Selection All / Search and Replace / Standard... All / Search and Replace / By Table... All / Delete / Selected Text All / Delete / Marked Lines All / Undo All / Redo May 24,02: Similarly to NotePad or MS-Word, an entire word can now be selected in CREDIT by double-clicking. May 20,02: The Standard Error calculation was extremely unstable and the results weren't reliable for large numbers or long number columns. This defect is now removed. Apr 30,02: When saving a file you were asked for "Append data / Over- write". However the option "Append data" is a rare except- ion under Windows operationg systems though it is more se- cure. With sort of nostalgic feelings we now changed the priority by swapping the options to "Overwrite / Append da- ta". Apr 07,02: The header lines printed on top of the print pages are no longer stored in an INI file as before. The header lines are now saved in a special file PRINT.HDR, located in the MNU-directory. If this file can't be found there the PRO- directory will automatically be accessed which is usually located on a network server (to allow access to the header lines for all users). Apr 05,02: Marked (green) lines can be copied (using Ctrl + C) to the clipboard as a block of lines which can be pasted at another location using Ctrl+V. Jan 27,02: The functions "Search" and "Search+Replace" need a search text containing at least one character to enable the green search buttons. If you delete the search text all arrow keys will be disabled (gray). After selecting another search text from the combo box the arrow keys remained disabled. This error was fixed. Jan 17,02: The keystroke recorder didn't correctly work until the end of file if the cycle of key events changed the number of lines. Error was fixed today. Jan 07,02: "Search and Replace by Table" did not work properly. Now the search is correctly confined to the previously selected text areas. Nov 27,01: In the preview of the Restructuring Lines Dialog some users could not see the second line but only the ruler in the first line. The scroll bar height is now taken into account and the font size may be reduced. Sep 24,01: The toolbars located within CC's frame now adhere to the current (flat) style used in Cremer products. Sep 05,01: Extended Two-Line-Comparison: The difference of two numbers can be tested to see if it exceeds a given threshold. This is a convenient way of detecting neighbouring points in a coordinate file. Aug 28,01: Printing bug fixed: While preparing the print perview or a print job CREDIT could crash because of insufficient init- ialization. However, this bug only occurred irregularly or not at all. Aug 28,01: Inserting and deleting an empty column on the left side is now possible by selecting a block and pressing the Tab key (insert) or Shift + Tab (delete). The column width is bas- ed on the tab width. Aug 28,01: The special line marking was carried out by clicking the right mouse button individually for each line. Now you can continuously mark multiple lines by holding down the mouse button. Aug 22,01: Via "Insert / Page Eject" you can insert an ASCII 12 charac- ter which is interpreted as a "Form Feed" when printing a document. Aug 20,01: Crash with Windows 98 if CREDIT was launched directly (not from the CC platform) followed by output to printer or print preview and finally opening a second file. Bug fixed. Jul 27,01: Bug fixed: In the Search and the Replace dialogs the caret disappeared from the entry field when the text was comple- tely deleted. Jun 29,01: Bug fixed: If the Undo memory has to be reset because of an excessive amount of operations the corresponding edit oper- ations are not recorded. However, the "modified flag" has to be set properly (we had forgotten the flag). Another bug fixed: A number column with entries .1234 could produce "gaps" if the new calculated numbers were stored in the "old" format. ----------------------------------------------------------- Jun 21,01: Release and distribution of the new version 2.6 ----------------------------------------------------------- Jun 21,01: Today not only the table entry functions were completed but the English translation was also finished. With these tasks completed we can start distributing the new CREDIT version 2.6. Jun 20,01: Splitting a window: The second view initially displays the same file location as the first view. Jun 19,01: Delimiter to Columns: Now you can choose whether the delimit- ers are taken separately or as a group. If Search, Replace etc. was confined to a previously select- ed area the selection was automatically fixed. This marking is automatically removed (switched back to a normal select- ion) when you close the corresponding dialog. Jun 08,01: The "Calculation of a Column Sum..." was improved to meet the wishes of many of our customers. When the dialog is open you are able to simultaneously edit the text and pre- pare it in the best possible way for inserting the results. To account for the extensive usage of the function "Restruc- turing Lines" we decided to add a new icon in the frame of CREDIT to access this function. May 28,01: Search and Replace by Table was supplied with a new dialog allowing you to directly enter the table of queries (instead of editing the file). The internal editor can now access this function. May 24,01: The function "Delimiter to Columns" was extended. You can now apply all possible delimiters, enter a constant column width, fill the gap between the columns and define the text alignment (left- or right-bounded). May 22,01: The "Marking Lines" dialog was extended. You can now mark either the previous or next line. Apr 23,01: Fixed bug in "Search and Replace by Table": When case-sens- itivity was switched off, CREDIT often couldn't find any text. Apr 03,01: Some seldom-used icons were removed from toolbars. The in- ternal editor was also freed from rarely used symbols. Apr 02,01: Continued text search was improved once more: CREDIT reme- bers the last setting so you don't have to first open the Find Dialog. Apr 02,01: We started to translate a full English version of CREDIT which will be available in June 2001.
