Our setup procedure saves unique information about the current computer in the license file. When our programs are run, this unique information is retrieved from the computer and compared to the information in the current version of the license file.
Unfortunately, Windows updates can sometimes change this unique information. This results in a downgrade of the license, and it is no longer possible to run our programs. The same thing of course happens if you copy your entire installation to a new computer. There are several ways to update the license file in such situations:
Some customers use CAPLAN and also ProVI, with its integrated surveying module (which is a light version of CAPLAN), on the same computer.
This can lead to issues if you open a CAPLAN project (CP file) by double-clicking on it in Windows Explorer.
This is because each new installation of CAPLAN (whether as a standalone license or as a component of ProVI) registers the “.CP” file type for itself. And the most recent installation takes precedence.
So, if you install CAPLAN first and then ProVI with its surveying module, double-clicking a CP file will launch CAPLAN within ProVI.
Reinstalling CAPLAN will update the file type registration (so that CAPLAN is the most recent installation), and double-clicking a CP file will then launch the correct CAPLAN.
